立て籠もる

たてこもる【立て籠もる】

1 〔引きこもる〕 shut oneself up 《in the house》; withdraw 《to one's bedroom》; confine oneself 《to one's room》; remain in seclusion.

●書斎に立てこももる keep [withdraw] to one's study.

2 〔籠城する〕 entrench oneself 《in a building, in a castle》; 《口》 hole up 《in a building》.

●武装した過激派はその建物に立て籠もった. Armed fanatics occupied [holed up in] the building.

・脱獄囚は 3 人を人質に取ったまま銀行内に立て籠もった. The escaped convict took three hostages and holed himself up in the bank.
